4:00 a.m. wake-up call
By Jennifer | February 8, 2010
Since my son woke up at 4:00 a.m., wide awake and ready to start his day, I figured that this was just as good a time as any to work on typing up a blog. I admit, my mind has been a little preoccupied this semester after finding out that I’m just one class away from getting certified with the ability to teach Students with Disabilities. This is extremely exciting and a little upsetting to me at the same time. When I graduated with my B.S. degree, I was given no information to tell me that I was so close to reaching this goal, or the class would have been taken long before now. So, now I look forward to completing my last remaining class either over the summer or earlier, if at all possible.
What level do you want to teach?

This has been a great week. I have been back subbing at the high school level, which is where I always thought I wanted to teach. I have to say, after spending time lately at the elementary and secondary levels, I may have changed my mind. Let me take a minute to give you some insight into my mind.

Hey everyone! Hope you’re having a good week. Personally I’m loving the fact that it’s Saturday and I can let my brain relax a bit. I say a bit because I still have an 18-month-old running around at home and probably shouldn’t turn my brain off completely!

My placement for the EDCH 570 course has already introduced me to the concept of shared teaching duties by two teachers. I’ve been placed in a grade 3 / grade 4 split class at a public elementary school in Newmarket (Ontario), where one teacher teaches five days a week in the morning and the other one teaches five days a week in the afternoon. So far I’ve met with the two teachers to discuss how we can ensure that my participation in their classroom will meet my requirements for the course and how to deal with some of the students in their class.
What a Week Already!

I’ve had such a crazy week already! I just recently found out that I’m only missing one class to become certified to teach “Students with Disabilities”.

This week was a fairly light week although I’m sure things will start to pick up more and more. Classes went by quickly starting with the history class. In this class we watched Chariots of Fire. Sandy was away on business but class was still held so that we could see the movie. After this we all ate dinner together and headed to our diversity class.

Sorry this is so late this week folks; what a crazy weekend! We traveled out to Kingston, NY, for a family wedding! Good thing that I did my homework before going out there, because I’m totally unmotivated since I’ve been home. I’m getting back into the swing of things, and it feels [...]

This semester is getting busier and busier! Today was my last calm day for probably a while, so I went to the Fitness Center to work out for a little bit (since I haven’t in God knows how long). Now I’m free until 2:00 pm, then I work at the C.O.P.E. Office until 4:00 pm. After that [...]

Hello all, still getting into the swing of things here in the Graduate Physical Ed program; it takes a few weeks for me to get used to being back in classes and doing all the work. We just got assigned our pre-student teaching placements and I am in Cheektowaga High School, the same place where [...]

Today is February 2nd, a day I have looked forward to since I was a child. Even though I live in Western New York, I’ve always wished I lived in a warmer climate. I love the four seasons and all the different things Western New Yorkers are able to do because of our location (hike, ski, golf, best education, make snow angels, close to the border, the lakes…) , but deep down inside I just wish I could walk to the beach every day. So as you can imagine and probably already predicted, I have terrible news, Phil the groundhog has spoken and says six more weeks of winter. As it looks the proverb will be correct with March going, “in like a lion, out like a lamb.”
