Benevenuto all’Italia!
By Meghan | September 1, 2010
Once in Washington, we met up with the fifth member of our group. Our layover was just about 4 hours! It’s crazy! We got some lunch and chatted for a little bit, prepping ourselves for the middle flight, which was also the longest one…8 hours! Holy cow, I thought it was going to be ridiculous. It turned out to be not so bad because they had a lot of different…CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

Freshman Orientation 2010
By Tán | August 31, 2010
I am a biology major with a pre-medical focus, and I want to minor in Neuroscience. I chose biology because I love everything about science. I would love to know how a lot of stuff works in the world and biology is essentially, the study of life. My time at Canisius will open doors for me that I would have never thought possible because…CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

Happy birthday to you!
By Meghan | August 29, 2010
Packing is….not going quite as good as I had hoped. It’s not like it’s going bad, but I literally have no room in my suitcase and a few more things to pack. I have a bunch of packing lists from both Canisius and my abroad university saying, “DON’T PACK TOO MUCH!” yet here I am, full to the brim. I really don’t know what else to cut! I kind of NEED clothes and whatnot! At any rate, I have a lot of stuff…CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

Meaning of Cold Front Dependent on Locale
By Joel | August 25, 2010
I am not a weatherman but I have always thought that a cold front almost always means I have to wear long sleeves and turtlenecks and several layers of clothes, because, well, it’s cold. Even I, who come from the Philippines, understand it that way. But I guess that’s not always the connotation of a cold front since here in Austin, a week of mid-90 degree temperatures is considered just that. Seriously, I even saw a headline on a newspaper that says “Cold Front Hits Austin” or something…CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

We Got the Funk, Yeah!
By Meghan | August 24, 2010
It’s supposed to be pretty hot when I first arrive, but pretty chilled when I’m leaving. I refrain from using the word “cold” because in December, the highs can get into the mid-50′s and the lows down into the high 30′s…maybe I’m crazy but I don’t consider that “winter coat” material. But as my mom also mentioned, if I’m visiting other countries, it may be colder there. I guess what I’m getting at is, I reallllllllly don’t want to bring a winter coat…CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

Keep Austin Weird
By Joel | August 18, 2010
We have done a lot as a community already, going to the bank and the grocery stores, getting to know our neighborhood, visiting the different agencies we’ll be working with, and baptizing ourselves in the city’s natural gem called Barton Springs. It is no wonder why Austin keeps on being ranked as the number one place for young single adults to go because there are tons of free activities…CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

You Ain’t Nothin’ But a Hounddog!
By Meghan | August 18, 2010
I saw some aunts, uncles, and cousins I haven’t seen in years! It was very nice. My cousins from Memphis and Texas both flew up and holy cow have they gotten tall. They have to be at least 6 feet tall! The wedding was beautiful and my cousin, Beth, looked stunning. Her new husband is so nice (and lucky!). They make a fantastic couple and I’m very happy…CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

Working at the Car Wash!
By Meghan | August 13, 2010
Monday I’m getting new glasses (hopefully) so that knocks another thing off my list. I can’t believe how much stuff is left and how much is coming together. It’s so crazy to think that in only 2 and a half weeks I will be living in a different country, across the second largest ocean in the world, thousands of miles away from everyone I’m close to. I don’t know what I was thinking, but it may turn out to be the best idea I’ve ever had. I’m so incredibly nervous and scared, but I know this is something I won’t regret. I’ve always been strangely determined to live my life and here I am, seizing this opportunity I’ve been dreaming of…CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

Checking in… From Houston…
By Joel | August 10, 2010
I am actually blogging here from the George Bush Intercontinental Airport Terminal C. In case you want to come down, I’ll be here until 5. I got here at 11 this morning and will be waiting here until 5 for our shuttle to pick us up. So far, I haven’t seen any other volunteers in the area. I have been mostly to myself watching movies, listening to music and people watching. Being in a different environment just reminds me of how big the world is and how many places…CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

A Quickly Ending Summer
By Joel | August 4, 2010
In 5 days, 15 hours, and 30 minutes, I will look back to this summer and realize that it has been busy and good. I have given it my all. I have researched in the best caliber I know for my internship at Hodgson Russ. I wore my creative hat to complete the Joel & Joel Project and most of all I have made myself available for precious times spent with family and friends. I have been surrounded by several opportunities and a loving environment, all for which I am very grateful for. In 5 days, 15 hours, and 30 minutes, I hope to…CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…
