What is tangible?
By Michael | September 26, 2009
There are so many emotions attached with being here. Emotions that you do not think about when you are getting ready to leave because everything is good and exciting.
First, I feel like I have not had a formal day of education in my life. I will admit being over here I automatically assumed there wouldn’t be a language barrier which is technically true. However, there are so many other cultural differences that there might as well be one. Mhmm let’s see what the very unpredictable weather will be today? Oh, I forgot I don’t understand the Celsius scale without a calculator. Exactly how far is it to the store……How do I convert meters (..I mean metre). How many pounds ……nope kilograms. But I say all this not in frustration just in humor; it really does show how segregated Americans are. So I am just plowing through the differences and make the best of things….
Second I have found a lot of time here to reflect on my life… I know that might sound so corny but it’s for real. You are put in a place and situation that is totally new and scary, but your only choice is to accept it and rise to the challenge. I have to challenge myself to try new things, be safe, and at the same time remember to hold on to a sense of self in a world that is constantly moving and in a rush around you. Again this is not frustration but reflection.
Here are some of the pictures I have been taking this last week
