Buffalo Sports
By James | August 30, 2011
Buffalo and sports go hand in hand – like peanut butter and jelly. You can’t have one without the other. Now I’m a die hard sports fans, I go to multiple Sabres games every year, I hold season tickets to the Buffalo Bills games, and I go to a handfull of Bandits games every spring. But if there is one thing I have learned about sports in Buffalo, its not to have any expectations.
For example, we EXPECTED the Sabres to win the Stanley Cup by now. We EXPECTED to have a major league baseball team by now, and yes, we EXPECTED to win a Super Bowl by now. And while we haven’t won or done any of those things, I can personally say that I’m alright with that.
Sports are about competition, the blood and sweat that are given to the field each week, and of course the playoffs. Even if the Bills haven’t made the playoffs in over a decade, I can tell you that as soon as our season is over – I cheer for a different team, but can’t wait to see the red, white, and blue Bills players suit up again.
Even if Buffalo never makes big moves in the off season, I can assure you that on opening day of free agency I am on the edge of the seat waiting to pick up a franchise player. And hey, if we don’t get anyone big, there’s always next year.
So even though we are a sports town and a great amount of people in the greater Buffalo area live and breath our teams, I would just relax about it – because there is always next year.
